Volunteer your time and talents

Ever wonder how you can help the forgotten pets of Florida’s Forgotten Coast? It’s easy! Volunteer! Here are several fun ways you can volunteer at the Franklin County Humane Society. If you are interested in ANY of these activities, please call (850) 670-8414.

Socialize/Walk

Our dogs and cats love attention! And, by spending time with these animals, you’ll be making a difference in their lives, helping them become more adoptable. Dogs require regular exercise to maintain their health and overall well-being. Many dogs have never been on a leash before, so regular walks are an essential way to prepare them for their future homes. Cats and kittens love attention and become more social when handled regularly. It also helps keep our felines from becoming bored and lonely.

Foster

We always need fosters, especially with young puppies or nursing mothers who thrive much better in a home environment than in a kennel. All you need to do is provide a safe space for these animals until they are ready to be adopted. We also occasionally need fosters to provide temporary shelter for animals that have had recent surgery. The shelter provides everything you need; all you need to do is open your home and add a dose of love and care.

Transport

In order to find homes for as many animals as possible, we often partner with rescue facilities in larger markets. This requires driving our animals to a midpoint, generally Chiefland, FL, to transfer them to these locations. If you like to drive, it’s only a six-hour round trip, and you’ll make a huge difference in the lives of homeless animals. We provide the van and gas.

Dog For a Day

If you are visiting the area (or live here full time), check out our “Adopt a Dog for a Day” program. You can “check” out one of our wonderful pups for a day (or more). Take them to the beach, restaurant, or wherever dogs are allowed. Taking a break from the shelter does a world of good for our homeless pets and also helps them learn what it’s like to live with a family in a real home.

Event Help

We attend numerous fun events around the county each year, showcasing adoptable animals. This means we have to set up and take down our displays, care for the animals, interact with the public, and so on. If you’d like to help with events such as BrewFest, Barkus, ShrimpFest, Howl-o-Ween, or the Oyster Cook-Off, please let us know.
